Humanity Touch Commemorates International Day of Rural Women 2025: Empowering Through Education and Technology for Inclusive Agri-Food Systems

Posted by Categories: General

On October 15, 2025, Humanity Touch proudly joined the global community in celebrating the International Day of Rural Women under the theme “Empowering Women Living in Rural Areas through Education and Access to Technology: Bridging the Gap for Inclusive and Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Africa”. This year’s theme spotlighted the urgent need to close the digital and educational divide that continues to marginalize rural women, while recognizing their central role in transforming agriculture, food security, and community resilience across the continent.

In Adjumani district, Humanity Touch marked the occasion with a series of inclusive activities that brought together rural women, local leaders, and development partners. Through community dialogues, digital literacy workshops, and agricultural exhibitions, women from host and refugee communities shared their experiences and innovations—many of which have been nurtured through Humanity Touch’s programming. The organization’s commitment to gender justice, eco-inclusive livelihoods, and transformative leadership was evident in every session, as women demonstrated how access to education and technology has empowered them to lead change in their homes, farms, and communities.

The theme’s focus on education and technology aligns seamlessly with Humanity Touch’s strategic initiatives. Through the Mobile Agricultural Training Van Project, rural women receive hands-on training in climate-smart agriculture, solar-powered food processing, and digital literacy. These mobile units travel to underserved sub-counties, ensuring that even the most remote communities can access knowledge, tools, and mentorship. The organization also integrates GBV prevention and survivor support into its training modules, recognizing that empowerment must be holistic—addressing both economic and social vulnerabilities.

Humanity Touch’s Feminist Leadership Academy further reinforces the theme by equipping adolescent girls and young women with advocacy skills, digital tools, and leadership training. Many graduates of the program are now leading community initiatives, facilitating peer education, and advocating for inclusive policies in local governance structures. By centering women as agents of change—not just beneficiaries—the organization continues to challenge entrenched gender norms and promote inclusive development.

The 2025 celebration also served as a platform for policy engagement. Humanity Touch convened roundtable discussions with district officials, civil society actors, and agricultural extension workers to explore strategies for integrating gender-responsive technology and education into regional development plans. The organization emphasized the need for increased investment in women-led agri-food enterprises, digital infrastructure, and inclusive financing mechanisms.

As Africa continues to reimagine its food systems in response to climate change, population growth, and economic shifts, the leadership of rural women is not optional—it is essential. Humanity Touch remains steadfast in its mission to build a just, peaceful, and resilient society where women and girls thrive with dignity, lead with confidence, and shape the future of sustainable agriculture. The 2025 International Day of Rural Women was not just a celebration—it was a call to action, and Humanity Touch is answering that call with purpose, partnership, and unwavering resolve.
